Fixed cameras on the map
Fixed speed cameras, red light cameras and section control from OpenStreetMap, across Europe.
OpenBlitzer shows fixed speed cameras, red light cameras and section control, and warns you about mobile checks, traffic jams and hazards reported by other drivers. Free and open source, made by Codext GmbH.
In Germany, drivers must not use a speed camera warner while driving (§ 23 (1c) StVO). Other countries have similar rules. OpenBlitzer is meant for passengers and for planning a route.
The app is not available in Switzerland.
The warning logic runs entirely on your phone. It knows your speed and heading and only speaks up when something is really ahead of you.
The faster you go, the further it looks: 300 m in town, up to 1,200 m on the motorway. Cameras that only measure the opposite direction are ignored.
A large banner with type, distance and speed limit, plus a chime, a spoken announcement and vibration. A second alert follows shortly before the camera.
After you pass a community report, the app asks: still there? Yes extends the report, No helps remove it. The question disappears by itself after 12 seconds.
No premium tier and no ad banners. Every feature is for everyone.
Fixed speed cameras, red light cameras and section control from OpenStreetMap, across Europe.
Mobile cameras, traffic jam ends, accidents, roadworks, hazards, closures, poor visibility and new fixed cameras. Report with two taps at most.
After you pass a report, the app asks whether it is still there. That keeps reports current and lets old ones disappear.
Warnings only for what is ahead of you and applies to your direction. No alarms for the opposite carriageway or a parallel road.
Full-width banner with a distance countdown, chime, spoken announcement in English or German, and vibration.
GPS speed, the speed limit of the next camera and an alarm when you are too fast. You set the tolerance.
Keeps warning with the screen off or with your navigation app in front. Music and navigation get quieter for the announcement.
All fixed cameras are stored on the device and warn without signal. Live reports need a connection and are cached for their lifetime.
A mirrored, high-contrast view of your speed and the next warning that reflects in the windshield.
A simulated drive past cameras shows how warnings look and sound without leaving your desk.
A light map for the day and a dark map for the night.
App and voice in English or German, speeds in km/h or mph.
Every confirmation extends a report by its full lifetime. Once a report has two more No votes than Yes votes, it disappears right away.
A new fixed camera becomes part of the fixed camera data once three different devices have confirmed it.
A speed camera warner knows where you drive. That is why your location stays on your phone. Our server only receives what reports need, and nothing that identifies you.

One repository for everything: the Expo app for iPhone and Android, the server and this website.
The server is small: Bun, one SQLite file and a Docker image. It imports the cameras from OpenStreetMap every week and stores the community reports.
docs/API.mdCamera data: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Missing a fixed camera? Report it in the app or add it to OpenStreetMap directly. Every map built on OpenStreetMap benefits.
Not as the driver in Germany: § 23 (1c) StVO forbids operating or carrying a ready-to-use device that shows or warns about traffic enforcement while driving. This includes apps. Passengers may use OpenBlitzer, and you can plan your route with it before you leave. Other countries have their own, sometimes stricter rules.
Nothing. No ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases. The source code is MIT licensed on GitHub.
Fixed cameras come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) and are updated weekly. Mobile cameras and hazards are reported by people using the app.
Switzerland prohibits warnings about traffic checks, for passengers too. So we do not offer OpenBlitzer there.
Not yet. CarPlay needs a special entitlement from Apple. Both are on the roadmap in the README.
